VOLUNTEERS have come to the aid of a charity after an infestation wiped out its food supply.

The Stubbington Ark RSPCA centre recently had an infestation of weevils in their bird, small mammal and pig stores, which left them in urgent need of new supplies.

Volunteers from the Gosportarians offered to buy £500 worth of sealable containers and food to replace the ruined stock.

Gosportarian Malcolm Dent said: ‘We run a dog show each year to raise money for local animal charities, and there is none more local or dear to the hearts of Gosport people than the Ark.

‘When we saw they were in trouble we immediately offered our assistance in the form of food and containers.’

Manager Stephanie Cziczo said: ‘Local people are always wonderful, especially when something like this happens.

‘The Gosportarians have helped us immensely in keeping our small livestock fed.’
