WIRE in the Blood writer Val McDermid will be discussing her writing career at a talk at Portsmouth Central Library.

The best-selling crime author has surprised her fans by turning from writing about serial killers to penning children’s books.

Her first picture book, My Granny is a Pirate, has been short-listed for the Portsmouth Picture Book Award 2013 by local school children.

The council’s service development manager Clare Forsyth said: ‘We are very excited to welcome Val to Portsmouth. Val is a very popular author with local library users and the event promises to be a highly entertaining and fascinating evening’.
