MEMBERS of a painting group enjoyed food and song at its annual awards party.

The Rowlands Castle Painting Society meets weekly at Rowlands Castle Parish Hall. The group has more than 100 members and nearly all turned out for the event at the Parish Hall last week.

Terry Devaney, a long-standing member, said: ‘It proved to be a very successful evening which everyone enjoyed. A lot of hard work goes into organising this party behind the scenes. It began with a pictorial quiz where famous artists had to be identified testing the members’ knowledge and collaboration certainly helped to find the answers.

‘There was a Christmas card competition, won by Anne Newsom.

‘Barbara Woods took the cup for the photographic section and Gill Dollery won the holiday painting competition with a wonderful painting depicting her holiday in Italy this year.

‘Paddy Holmes, president of the society, was presented with a gift as a thank you for everything she contributes.

‘Paddy is instrumental in the organisation of the holidays abroad which have been greatly enjoyed by those who go on them.’

The party concludes the meetings until the group reconvenes on January 6. Membership is still open. Painters of all abilities are welcome. To find out more go to rowlandscastlepaintingsociety.org.uk.
