THE finale of a huge arts festival in Chichester had to be cancelled because of torrential weather.

A fireworks show was due to take place at Goodwood Racecourse on Saturday night but it was called off.

The event was set up to mark the end of Chichester Festivities, which had been running for three weeks.

Director Amanda Sharp previously said she was thrilled that bookings were 600 up on this time last year for the fireworks show.

Yesterday a spokesperson for the Chichester Festivities was unavailable for comment.

A statement on the Chichester Festivities website said: ‘Chichester Festivities’ organisers are sincerely sorry that they were given no option but to cancel the fireworks finale on Saturday and are as disappointed as everybody who was due to attend.

‘The website will be updated shortly with further information.

‘We thank you for your patience.’

Some of the big names that performed during the festivities included Des O’Connor, and Kyle Eastwood – the son of legendary actor Clint Eastwood – who played bass guitar for The Kyle Eastwood Band at St John’s Chapel, in St John’s Street, Chichester.
