WHILE many couples dream of a beach wedding, most do not have the chance to fly off to a paradise island.
But lucky Richard Baker and Laura James have won the chance to get married in the Bahamas.
They will be one of 16 couples getting wed there after winning a competition with the Bahamas Tourist Board.
Laura, from Coriander Way in Whiteley, said: ‘I couldn’t believe it – it’s amazing. I have never won anything in my life.
‘Richard and I love to travel anyway – we love to go and see new places.
‘We weren’t looking to get married in the Bahamas because of the price.
‘But now it’s absolutely perfect – we are so happy.’
Richard popped the question to Laura on her 25th birthday in New York in November.
When they got home, Laura saw an advert for the competition, in which the couple had to put together a short video about themselves.
Then they got all their friends and family to vote – and managed to get enough votes to win.
The couple will get married on a beach on Harbour Island alongside some of their family and friends on May 16 at 4pm.
They will celebrate with a wedding reception on their return to the UK.
Richard, 29, added: ‘It was always our plan to get married abroad due to the price in England but we never would have been able to afford a wedding in the Bahamas.
‘I’m glad that Laura can have the day that she wants.
‘It’s a great idea. It helps promote the Bahamas as a tourist destination and a wedding destination.
‘To know there are couples going through what we are doing at the same time is great.
‘We can share our experiences with each other.’
As part of the prize, Laura will have her wedding dress paid for and the wedding rings will also be provided for the couple.
