BANDS from the Portsmouth area are being invited to apply to take part in this year’s Live at the Bandstand programme on Southsea seafront.

Portsmouth City Council’s events team, along with Express FM and the Cellars at Eastney, are looking for two local bands to play live on June 12.

Every Sunday from the end of May to the end of August the bandstand hosts free afternoons of live music set in a natural amphitheatre behind the D-Day museum.

Each week offers a different style of music and at least half of that programme includes local bands.

Demos are welcomed from any unsigned bands from the PO1 to PO16 areas who have not played at the event before.

Express FM will select four to take part in a live final at The Cellars in Eastney on June 1, where a panel of judges and the audience will choose the two bands to play live at the bandstand.

Bands should submit a recent, good-quality demo with at least three tracks that accurately represent their music and a contact point.

Demos to be sent by May 1 to Bandstand Competition, Express FM, 49 Arundel Street, Portsmouth PO1 1SA

Finalists will be contacted by May 13.
