AN 85-YEAR-OLD volunteer who set up a sight loss support group in Fareham has won a national award.
Betty Richards, of Bentley Crescent in Fareham, won the Chairman’s Award for Volunteering as part of the Macular Disease Society 25th Anniversary Awards for Excellence.
Age-related macular degeneration affects the central vision and is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK.
Mrs Richards, who is affected by macular degeneration, said: ‘I’m absolutely honoured to receive the award.
‘I feel as though being involved in the group is like being part of a big family. We are always there for each other.’
