LAWN bowlers will be able to enjoy a warmer, brighter clubhouse thanks to a grant.

Victory Bowls Association, in Northern Parade, Hilsea, has been given a grant of £21,000 by the Veolia Environmental Trust.

It will pay for the upgrade of lighting and heating in the club. Work should start in the next few months.

Club chairman Kenneth Ash said: ‘As well as the members of the club, the pavilion is also used by a cycling club and several other community groups.

‘The improvements this grant will fund will also benefit them.’

The trust has also given a £35,000 grant to Play Parks for Hayling – a campaign to refurbish all the play parks on the island.

Paul Taylor, from the trust, said: ‘These grants round off a very busy 2014 for us, with us awarding a total of £6.8m to over 230 community and environmental projects across the UK. These two projects will bring many benefits for children and adults of all ages and we look forward to seeing work start in 2015.’
