LIFESAVERS on Hayling Island will benefit from a donation made by an athletics club.
For the eighth year running, Victory Athletic Club has donated the proceeds from its annual relay race to Hayling RNLI.
Fourteen teams of three runners – one as young as eight years old – ran a total of 26.2 miles around Hayling Island, passing the lifeboat station on their way.
The day raised a total of £592.
Organiser John Gallagher, 71, who ran on the day, said: ‘We like to support local charities, and it seems like coming home to be at the lifeboat station, as we run past it so regularly on training runs.
‘We value the work in saving lives and the dedication of crews.’
Jonathan Bradbury, operations manager, added: ‘We will put this cheque to good use in our work to save lives at sea.’
