THE Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire has appointed a student as one of her official cadets.

Army cadet Sergeant Matthew Beacham was picked above all other cadets in the county and was officially appointed at a ceremony in the Great Hall at Winchester.

Talking about the honour, Matthew, 17, who is a student at South Downs College, Waterlooville, said: ‘I’m really excited about the coming year.

‘My first duty will be Remembrance Day when I will represent the Lord Lieutenant, Dame Mary Fagan, and the Army Cadet Force.

‘Next year is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and it will be a special honour to be assisting the Lord Lieutenant during her official duties then.’

Matthew is a member of No 6 (Cowplain) Platoon of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force, based at the Horndean Community Centre.
