FOLLOWING the birth of the Princess Charlotte, calligrapher Jan Pickett says she was ‘thrilled’ to be asked to write a scroll to be presented to the royal couple.

Unfortunately, she had no choice but to turn down the commission as she was preparing a teaching trip.

Jan, who was commissioned to create a scroll to mark the birth of the royal couple’s son Prince George in 2013, said: ‘The joy of being asked was terrific. My pen was at the ready but you can’t do the last details such as name and date of birth until the last minute which I wouldn’t have been able to do because I was just going to Norway to teach.’

St Mary’s Hospital, in Paddington wanted to present the royal couple with the scroll before they left and contacted Jan, of Old Portsmouth, in April.

‘I was disappointed to have to turn it down but it really was an honour just to be asked,’ added Jan.
