THE new year will see a new vicar take over at a church that has been vicar-less for almost a year.

The Bishop of Portsmouth has announced that the new Rector of Havant is to be Canon Tom Kennar.

He will be the parish priest for St Faith’s Church, in the centre of Havant, and St Nicholas Church, Langstone.

Mr Kennar, 48, is currently team rector St Mark’s, St Nicholas and St Francis’ churches in North End, Portsmouth.

He is an area dean for the Portsmouth area, and has substantial connections with churches in West Africa, where he is the Canon of two cathedrals in Ghana.

Mr Kennar said: ‘I’m excited about coming to Havant. St Faith’s is a vibrant church which I’m looking forward to being part of – alongside the other churches and faiths in the area.

‘The life of faith has real potential to transform individual lives and communities – and I want to help people reach out and touch God in lots of different ways.’

Mr Kennar is married to the present parish administrator for St Faith’s Church, Clare Kennar. He will take up his new role in Havant at the beginning of February.
