AFTER losing her daughter and going through a divorce, Tina Damen decided to do something for herself.

So the 48-year-old will be abseiling down Spinnaker Tower to combat her fear of heights and raise money for charity – all while dressed as Catwoman.

Tina said she is looking forward to the challenge and feels it will help her find closure on her past after her daughter Lorren died at the age of 13.

She said: ‘I had quite a few hard years a while ago as my daughter Lorren died from a rare genetic disorder.

‘We did a number of fundraisers to help with the illness.

‘But I also had to support my husband and also cope with looking after my children

‘Since Lorren passed away five years ago, my husband and I have also separated.’

She will be looking to raise money for Naomi House and Jack’s Place, which cared for Lorren.

‘I want to raise money for a charity that helped my family so very much in all the very hard days we had while struggling to care for Lorren.

‘It’s a fabulous place. I couldn’t have lived without it.

‘It was the only place I would let my little girl go for respite because I would know she would be looked after well.’

Meanwhile, Tina is hoping that abseiling down the tower will finally help her get over her fear.

She added: ‘I have a great fear of heights, but I really want to do something for myself.

‘I’d like to make it a personal achievement.

‘I’m scared of heights so I’m going to conquer a personal thing at the same time.

‘I’m a little bit nervous but I’m going to do it whatever happens because I have to.

‘It’s one of my fears but I have got to get over it.

‘I’m looking forward to it though.’

Tina, of Dormington Road in Paulsgrove, is doing the abseil on July 21 and will be dressed as Catwoman.

‘I just thought it was appropriate,’ she said.

‘Cats go up high and Catwoman is a superhero.’

Tina’s family are set to come down on the day to cheer her on and give her some moral support.
