FOR those wanting to get away from the hubbub of street parties, historic woodland is being offered as an alternative venue for marking the Diamond Jubilee.
The Royal Forest of Bere, near Wickham, is hosting a Jubilee event in the West Walk Woodland on Sunday, June 3.
The forest was given its royal mark in the 11th century when woodlands were designed as hunting areas reserved for the aristocracy.
Pam Warhust, Forestry Commission chairwoman, said: ‘Royal hunting forests are a perfect venue to celebrate the Jubilee with a relaxing picnic amongst lovely scenery.
‘If a street party isn’t for you, West Walk Woodland is not far, so bring friends and family and join Forestry Commission in celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.’
