FIREFIGHTERS who walked 13 miles in full kit carrying a stretcher have thanked the public for their generosity.

The tough challenge was a fundraiser for two charities which are both very important to them – Football For Cancer and the Fire Fighters Fund.

They raised £4,588.76 during the feat with a street collection, and more than £9,000 in total sponsorship.

Cosham watch manager Craig Sadler organised the event.

He said: ‘I and the team would like to thank everyone who was involved, supported and donated.

‘We were overwhelmed by the amount we raised for two charities close to our hearts.

‘We’re already looking forward to the next challenge.’

The challenge, which began in Blendworth and ended at Gunwharf Quays, tested the stamina and strength of the whole team.

They each wore full kit, with 30kg of equipment on their backs.

There are Football For Cancer events throughout the month.
