A GROUP is offering residents tours around a historical cemetery.

The Friends of Highland Road Cemetery have organised for two tours for local people to discover the history behind it.

This Sunday, the chapel opens at midday and visitors will be able to see 250 laminated story boards of people who are buried at the cemetery.

These include characters connected to Charles Dickens and holders of the Victoria Cross.

The tour starts at 2pm from the chapel.

The second tour is on September, 15.

Visitors will be able to see graves and headstones of people connected to Portsmouth – many of whom have roads named after them.
