AN award-winning craftswoman gave shoppers a treat by showing off her designs.

Deryn Relph has received arts council funding to take a studio at the craft centre, Making Space, in Leigh Park, free for a year.

The organisation is running a project called Making It which encourages people to learn about the crafts.

Deryn has been given one of two studios available to up-and-coming artists.

Deryn, from Portsmouth, set up a stall in the Meridian Centre, Havant, over the weekend with Ami Lowman, from Making Space.

There Deryn showed her designs for cushion covers, lampshades and footstool covers.

She said: ‘It was very busy on Saturday with quite a few people interested in what I was doing and possibly taking part in workshops at Making Space.

‘I demonstrated some crochet using different scales – really thick yarn and a big chunky crochet hook and some really fine cotton and a very small crochet hook.’

Call (023) 9247 2491 or go to makingspace.org for workshops.
