DEMOCRACY will be in action when residents are given the opportunity to vote for which charities and groups should get a share of £17,500.

Voting events are taking place in East Hampshire for the Approved by You scheme.

Voluntary organisations and community groups have until next Wednesday to get their bids in for grants of up to £500 that will be awarded by the public.

Councillor Ken Carter, who oversees communities in East Hampshire, said: ‘These relatively small grants can make all the difference to groups who are struggling to fund projects and initiatives that will help their local community.

‘By encouraging local residents to get involved in choosing where the money goes, we will see local democracy at work in the heart of our community.’

A voting event will take place on March 31 from 6.15pm at Penns Place, Petersfield.

A second voting event for the Horndean area takes place at Merchistoun Hall on April 16 from 6.15pm. To take part call 01730 234393.
