GETTING up to speed with all the latest local news is now a touch easier for Dan Ruttle thanks to our great new iPad app.

Dan, 33, of Siskin Road, Southsea, was one of the first to download the constantly-updated service.

And he’s been enjoying swiping through the pages to get the latest news, features, sport and comment from around the area, enhanced with video and picture packages.

Dan, who works as a project manager at Groupama Insurance in Port Solent, said: ‘It’s pretty cool. It’s quite slick and easy to use.

‘I like the fact you can go in and have the ability to go back through the news archive.

‘It’s definitely a good thing that The News has decided to go down this route.

‘I would urge others go and download it today.’

Like Dan, you can have a 30-day free trial of the app by using your iPad to download it from the Apple App store.

As well as showing you all the latest breaking stories, the app allows users to read all the pages from that day’s newspaper in their traditional format on the iPad screen.

It includes the editor’s picks of the day plus sections for news, Pompey, sport, business, lifestyle and nostalgia.

Finding your way through the app is simple.

In the digital section, users can scroll to browse content across all channels before clicking into articles and swiping to read more.

In the paper section, users can see and access every page of the latest edition.

And you can even use a dowload facility to store pages on your device so you can read them while you are away from an internet connection.

That makes catching up with the paper easy for commuters.

The app also includes an archive feature so you can see content from previous editions of The News.

Readers who receive a delivery direct from The News can use the app for free and will receive a letter detailing how they can arrange this after the 30-day free trial. The same goes for our prepaid subscription voucher customers.

How to get the app

Getting a free trial of our iPad app couldn’t be easier.

Just go to the App Store on your iPad and search for The News Portsmouth.

Then click the install button, wait for the app to download and open it.

You’ll get 30 days for free and after that you’ll be able to buy a subscription for £5.99 a month from within the app.

By default the subscription will renew automatically but there is an option to turn this off.

At the moment our app is only available for the iPad but we are looking at extending the service to other devices.
