EXCITED fireworks enthusiasts came from miles around to celebrate Bonfire Night in Leigh Park.
Havant Borough Council’s annual display at Stockheath Common went off with a bang as thousands came to enjoy the show.
It’s the 14th year the council has put on the event and families enjoyed a funfair as well as the spectacular display.
Steve Fletcher came all the way from Gosport.
The 30-year-old postman said: ‘It was fantastic, one of the best displays I’ve ever seen.
‘There was a really brilliant family atmosphere.
‘Normally at big events like this you get a load of kids running round, misbehaving, who spoil it for everyone else.
‘But it wasn’t like that at all. The fireworks were really amazing – far better than I had expected.
‘I thought it’d be a few fireworks and a bit of a bonfire but there was a funfair and food stalls.
‘I went with my mate and his kids and they absolutely loved it.’
This year’s dazzling display was launched by Councillor Ken Smith, the Mayor of Havant.
He said: ‘I was amazed at the amount of people there.
‘There was a really, really nice, friendly atmosphere.
‘And in fact the fireworks were the best I have ever seen. They were spectacular.
‘Even I found myself standing there going “ooh” and “aah”.’
