WAVE 105 DJ Simon Clarke made a splash by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest underwater radio broadcasty.

Simon spent a total of five hours underwater doing his live radio broadcast to raise money for Cash for Kids.

Andark Diving and Watersports spent between four and five months designing the waterproof studio with firm Flexitech.

After five practice runs and stringent safety tests, Simon used the bubble-style studio, which acted as a decompression chamber, for the challenge.

Simon also went through the day’s headlines with The News editor Mark Waldron over the phone during the challenge.

Simon, who started swimming a year ago, said: ‘If it wasn’t for my kids Georgina and Matthew encouraging me to swim, I wouldn’t be stood here being a Guinness World Record holder.

His daughter Georgina said: ‘We are very proud of you daddy, we knew you could do it.’
