PEOPLE are being urged to donate winter coats to keep elderly people warm during the winter.

The Wilkinson store in the Arundel Shopping Centre, Portsmouth, is collecting winter warmers and will then deliver them to Age UK charity shops.

Wilkinson, which has more than 360 stores throughout the country, will be taking part in this initiative nationwide, giving customers and staff the opportunity to donate until January 31, next year.

Celebrities have already pledged their support, with Helen Mirren and Stella McCartney among others donating their old winter coats to help the cause.

At least 250 elderly people die needlessly from the effects of cold weather every year, figures collected by the charity show.
