AN AWARD-winning donkey will appear at a crib service in Leigh Park on Christmas Eve.

Rusty was named best working donkey in the south by The Donkey Sanctuary. He will appear alongside Ollie at St Francis Church, Leigh Park on December 24.

The pair, from Hayling Island, also took part in this year’s Palm Sunday Procession.

Vicar Jonathan Jeffrey said he wants to fill the church with stars for the service.

He said: ‘We are welcoming people to bring their children to a craft session in the morning to help make stars to decorate the church, and then at 5pm we want to see as many people as possible fill the church for our traditional retelling of the nativity story.

‘We are delighted to have Rusty and Ollie with us for the service. They are fabulous animals and their owners Tracey and Paul Hunt are superstars for agreeing to bring them out on Christmas Eve.’
