THE best sporting talent in East Hampshire will be honoured at an Olympic-inspired celebration.

The East Hampshire District Sports Awards will recognise the area’s best performers across a range of categories, including best disabled sportsman or woman, best volunteer and best coach.

East Hampshire District Council is calling for residents to nominate the people they feel have contributed most to their team or sport.

Kirsty Cope, community project worker, said: ‘Sport helps provide the bedrock of strong communities.

‘It inspires dedication and determination, creates passion and pride, instils discipline and fair play, provides opportunity for fun and friendship, builds character and courage and engenders camaraderie and team spirit amongst competitors and spectators alike.

‘As we move towards the games in London these awards will harness all these positive messages and celebrate everything that is good about sport.’

The deadline for nominations is December 19.
