ACTOR Rupert Penry-Jones will open a new amphitheatre in the South Downs National Park.

It’s not often diggers have to remove 5,000 tons of soil before a theatre production can take to the stage.

But that’s exactly the preparation required for Petersfield’s Shakespeare Festival this summer.

The open-air venue is off Church Road, Steep, and will be opened on Friday by the Spooks actor.
