A GARDENING challenge has been given an extended deadline for applications.

The new closing date for the competition, which celebrates the horticultural talents of Fareham residents and is run by the borough council, is now Sunday.

There are 20 award categories ranging from radiant hanging baskets to plantsman gardens.

The challenge is free to enter.

All entrants will be marked using a points system and can achieve gold, silver gilt, silver or bronze accreditation in line with the Royal Horticultural Society.

Executive member for Streetscene, councillor Tiffany Harper said: ‘The Community Gardening Challenge is an excellent way for the people of Fareham to show what they can do by working together to enhance the environment in which they live and shape their local landscape.’
