THESE little bundles of joy ensured 2012 got off to a fantastic start for some families.
People were celebrating in Portsmouth – as well as Chile – as Megan Suckling came into the world.
She was born at 4.16am at the maternity ward at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Her mum Evelyn Munoz, 36, hails from Chile and Megan’s arrival came at Chilean time 12.16am – as the family party in South America was still in full swing.
Proud dad Chris Suckling, a company director, of Landguard Road, Southsea, said: ‘Her family found out just after midnight. We were in contact with them by Skype. It was a great moment. We had a room opposite the window with fireworks going off outside.’
Evelyn was in hospital for four days but all the waiting was clearly worth it.
‘It’s excellent, it’s the perfect day for it,’ added Chris.
Meanwhile, Saleem Elbaloula, 20, and Paige Hall, 17, were able to call themselves parents at 12.26pm yesterday.
Their bouncing baby boy, Floyd, was a healthy 6lb 12oz.
Saleem, of Withies Road, Gosport, said: ‘It’s almost surreal. We went in with a plan, but everything changed.Initially we wanted a home birth, but her waters broke early so we came to hospital.
‘The midwives here have been brilliant – they really reassured Paige.’
Saleem said he could not believe how well-behaved his son was – taking naps and loving being held by family members.
The couple arrived at hospital at 9am yesterday and said they were so focussed on the task in hand they only realised it was New Year 10 minutes after midnight.
Saleem added: ‘We paid no attention to it, She was in the middle of some strong contractions so we were not focussed on it.’
Autumn Wilson also had a New Year baby with little Destiny Shepard coming into the world.
