ORGANISERS of a Christmas lunch for elderly people and those on their own have hailed it as a success.

The lunch, held on Christmas Day at St Faith’s Church Parish Centre in Victoria Square, Lee-on-the-Solent, was attended by people from Gosport and Lee.

Co-organiser Mary Smith said the meal could not have happened without volunteers from the church and Gosport Voluntary Action, who helped transport the diners.

She said: ‘The various guests I spoke to said it was very good and of course they would have otherwise been on their own.’

‘Things went very well indeed, it was an excellent meal. There was a good atmosphere.’

And Gosport’s mayor, Councillor Richard Dickson attended, along with the mayoress, and his deputy Cllr John Beavis.

Cllr Dickson also gave 99-year-old Ivy Dean a birthday card to mark her landmark December birthday.
