A BAKING group founded by a Great British Bake Off contestant from Portsmouth held its first meeting last night.
Enwezor Nzegwu was on the most recent series of the hit BBC show.
Yesterday, he and around a dozen avid bakers met up at 101 Reykjavik in Southsea to sample each other’s work.
Enwezor said: ‘We are all here to taste each other’s cakes.
‘A few years ago I started getting into baking, and Facebook was getting big, so I thought why not set up a group where we can share baking hints and tips?
‘I set it up about three years ago, and it’s gone from strength to strength.
‘After being on the bake off, we went from having about 100 members to 420, but to be honest it’s not about the numbers.
‘We don’t want to grow it beyond what we are about, which is baking and having a good time baking.’
Asked about the baked goods on display, he said: ‘I made the croquembouche, which is a big choux pastry tower filled with custard cream flavoured with kirsch and we have tons of cake.
‘I have not seen them all yet.
‘There are a few savoury pastries as well. There is lots of cake. There’s a red velvet cake, too.’
