A ROMAN palace will form the backdrop to a stunning outdoor opera.

The Real Dido – an ancient story given a modern twist – will be fittingly performed at Fishbourne Roman Palace, near Chichester, West Sussex.

The production will be in the lower courtyard amongst the ancient remains of the palace.

Jaane Rowehl, the site director said: ‘We are looking forward to welcoming City Wall Productions and to seeing their new version of an old classic.

‘Who knows? Maybe the original owners of the palace would have listened to the story of Aeneas, the founder of Ancient Rome, in the same spot nearly 2,000 years ago.’

The opera is on May 5. Buy tickets from the palace, citywallproductions.com or Chichester Tourist Information.
