IT IS a dream that has taken 24 years to realise but now the doors to the world’s first hovercraft museum are open.

Trustees have spent decades putting together a collection of 70 hovercraft from all over the world.

Housed in First and Second World War hangars in Lee-on-the-Solent, they were displayed only a few times a year.

But on Saturday, Warwick Jacobs and the other trustees allowed the public in for the first time.

And the museum will be open Saturdays and Wednesday afternoons all year round from now on.

Mr Jacobs, the museum’s founder, said: ‘Our first day was very exciting.

‘It was lovely to see the families come through the doors, and to see the reaction on their faces to our wonderful collection.

‘We are the only hovercraft museum in the world. In our collection we have hovercrafts from James Bond, Top Gear and many more.’
