TWO friends have been reunited after they auditioned for the same theatre show.

Benjamin Dawson and Tristan Redwood used to be best friends when they were younger but after going to different infant schools, the pair lost contact.

It is great that we are going to be appearing in Oliver! together.

So it was a surprise to them and their parents when they turned up at rehearsals for Fareham Musical Society’s version of Oliver! – and both earned major roles.

Benjamin, from Gosport, has got the role of the Artful Dodger and Tristan will play Oliver when the show is staged at Ferneham Hall next week.

Tristan, 10, from Fareham, said: ‘I am happy that Benjamin and I are friends again. I have not seen him for such a long time, not since I was a toddler.

‘It is great that we are going to be appearing in Oliver! together.’

Both boys have been in other shows with Benjamin appearing in Annie Get Your Gun at The Mayflower and Priscilla in Bournemouth.

And he is certainly looking forward to performing alongside his old friend.

Benjamin said: ‘It has been really good fun rehearsing together.

‘I can’t wait perform on stage with him as the Artful Dodger.

‘I never knew that Tristan liked doing shows like me.’

For Karen Redwood, Tristan’s mum, it is great that the boys have got back in touch.

She said: ‘I used to babysit Benjamin from when he was six months old to when they both went to school.

‘They ended up going to different infant schools and we moved to Fareham so we lost contact.

‘But it is great they have got back in touch doing something they both love.’

Claire Dawson, mum of Benjamin, agrees.

She added: ‘Benjamin has always loved being in the shows so it is great that he and Tristan can be in one together after all these years.

‘It is good they got matched as Oliver and Dodger because there is another cast for the same show. They could have been in different ones but they are together which is lovely.’

The first showing of Oliver! at Ferneham Hall, in Fareham, is on March 17, The show runs until March 21.
