STALLS and family-friendly activities will mark the start of National Walking Month.

From 11am on Saturday, Portsmouth Friends of the Earth will be in Commercial Road to promote the benefits of walking in the city, both in terms of reducing pollution and improving health.

The event is taking place with Portsmouth City Council Active Travel team, Living Streets, Sustrans, and Healthy Walks.

Local organiser Rachel Hudson said: ‘To make Portsmouth a great walkable city, major everyday walking routes need to be identified, promoted and made more attractive through simple measures such as planting, seating and decluttering.’
