A FUN family day out is coming to Southsea this bank holiday weekend to celebrate the city’s seaside roots.

The Rural and Seaside Show will see Castle Field, on Clarence Esplanade, transform into a virtual village.

Running all weekend, from 10am till 5pm, the show will have terrier racing, ferret racing, donkey rides, marquees, Morris dancing and a traditional Punch and Judy show.

Councillor Lee Hunt, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure at Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘The Rural and Seaside Show is a fantastic new event.

‘It is part of the council’s plans to bring more and better events to our city.

‘With heavy horses, donkey rides and numerous stalls to enjoy, there’s never been a better time to head to the seafront for an afternoon of entertainment.

‘I hope lots of visitors and residents alike will take advantage of this free, fun bank holiday event.’

Local organisations are supporting the event.

Southsea Archery Club are offering taster sessions, the Blue Reef Aquarium will be showing off its rock pool exhibition and The Deck at Emsworth will supply food.
