A ROUND the world race based in Gosport has announced its start and finish.

The Clipper Round the World Race 13-14 will start in in front of Tower Bridge, in London, on September 1 and finish in the capital in July.

The race will see Pete Stirling, 47, from Garstons Close in Titchfield and Gareth Glover, 36, of Gosport, lead crews across 40,000 miles.

As reported in The News, the pair will separately skipper amateur sailors across the globe aboard new Clipper 70 racing yachts.

Clipper Race founder and accomplished yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said: ‘This will be the ninth edition of the biennial Clipper Race, a unique global event.

‘What better place to host the start and finish than London, in front of one of the best known landmarks.’
