VOLUPTUOUS Delphine Bateman is determined to show that all sizes are beautiful.

The 24-year-old has been chosen to represent Hampshire in the Miss British Beauty Curve pageant.

I think women should celebrate what they have and be proud no matter what your size.

In August, Delphine will grace the stage for one night in Surrey and will be up against women from across the UK.

She said: ‘I wanted to take part because it is for the larger ladies.

‘Bigger women don’t get the best publicity because people are normally making negative comments about their weight.

‘But I wanted to show that you don’t have to be skinny to take part in a beauty pageant. Women should celebrate what they have and be proud no matter what your size.’

Delphine, from Alverstoke in Gosport, will take part in three rounds including evening wear, a fashion round and swimwear.

She added: ‘I am really excited for the pageant because it’s the first one I have ever done.

‘I have been on stage before because I do burlesque dancing but I am still nervous.

‘I think I will be most nervous about the swimwear but I am looking forward to the outfit for the general fashion round.’

Delphine has got her outfit from Gosport-based clothing boutique Voluptuous Vintage.

The shop, on Village Road, opened in February.

It provides vintage clothes for plus-sized women and has sponsored Delphine.

She said: ‘Picking the clothes has probably been the hardest part of the preparation. You need to pick something that will make you stand out and I think the outfits I have from Voluptuous Vintage will help me do that.’

Miss British Beauty Curve is on August 8 and the finalists will complete the three rounds in one evening at the Epsom Playhouse. The winner is then announced.

Delphine added: ‘It would be amazing to win but I am just happy to be representing the women of Hampshire.

‘Looking at the other contestants, I know there is some competition and it will be hard to pick a winner.’
