FUNDRAISING champion Les Heyhoe has said how happy he is to have been named as Citizen of the Year.

The 59-year-old was given the honour at this year’s mayor-making ceremony in Gosport by Mayor of Gosport Cllr Lynn Hook.

I was very proud of the fact that the local authority recognised me in that way.

He is known in the town as The Man Of Many Millions as he has raised more than £10m for charity.

Les said: ‘With Gosport having a big population, I was very proud of being given the honour. I was invited to bring some people along to the mayor-making but I didn’t tell them why. I was a lovely surprise for them.

‘It was nice to be recognised and I was very proud of the fact that the local authority did it in this way.’
