WASTE firm Veolia has awarded a huge grant to a Girl Guides group.

The Waterlooville Guide Association will benefit from £38,000 towards their new hall in Walton Close.

The outer shell of the building is now complete and the grant means work can start on its internal structure, including the creation of a hall and the installation of flooring, ceilings, lighting, doorways and heating.

The money comes from the Landfill Communities Fund using landfill tax credits provided by Veolia.

The company will work with the Guides to develop their plans, register the project with the regulator of the Landfill Communities Fund and draft the agreements that will enable work to get under way.

McNabb Laurie, executive director of Veolia Trust, said: ‘Our board rigorously assessed all of the proposals and supported this scheme because they felt it met our objectives and it demonstrated the community needed it.’
