‘THE NHS in action’ is how one runner described Darin McCloud’s achievement.
It was Darin’s third Great South Run, and this year’s time was his best yet - 15 minutes quicker than last year’s. He was running with his diabetes consultant from Queen Alexandra Hospital, Lorraine Albon, who told him she would get him running one day when he was referred to her, weighing 21 stone.
‘I feel tired,’ said Darin at the finishing line.
‘I would never have thought I could do this.’
Lorraine added: ‘I think it shows that anything can happen.’
