The 29-year-old said: ‘I cried when they said my name.

‘I could not believe it as everyone in that category was absolutely amazing and I physically cannot put into words.’

Leanne has been in the hair and beauty industry for 11 years but recently set up her own business venture.

She said: ‘I made the big decision to venture out on my own and become self-employed.

‘One day I would love to have my own salon and employ people which after this award I would say it is definitely on the cards.’

This is the first time Leanne has entered any kind of competition.

She added: ‘It was a great way to meet people and it is nice to all come together as a community.’

A previous winner of Apprentice of the Year has proven hard work and dedication is the key to her success.

Tanahya Nash from Tony Wood Hairdressing in Southsea has spent the last year perfecting her colouring skills and on Saturday night took home Junior Hair Stylist of the Year.

The 22-year-old said: ‘It was a brilliant night and I can’t believe I won.

Tanahya has been in the industry for over two years.

She added: ‘Next year I would love to win Hair Stylist as that would be another step up but I know there is a lot of good competition in this area.’
