THEY come from across the globe but to the people they save, they’re all heroes.

Firefighters from 15 countries have gathered in Hanover, Germany to show off their skills.

A team from Hampshire Fire and Rescue took part in the Road Traffic Collision Challenge event.

The group included watch manager Lee Havey of Havant Fire Station and firefighter Brian Saunders, who is based at Cosham Fire Station.

In the challenge, the teams had to free trapped casualties from a challenging road traffic collision scenario within 20 minutes

The competition was part of Interschutz, the world’s biggest trade show for fire and emergency services and disaster relief.

Participants were also given masterclasses on practical cutting techniques and new car technology.

Contestants were judged on their performance in command abilities, medical and technical skills.

Judges assessed groups on their teamwork, use of tools and techniques, medical assessment, victim handling and on-scene communication.
