SAILOR Dee Caffari is encouraging people to nominate friends and family to be part of a crew on a boat for the 2012 Olympic games.

The Boat Project is a south east region-wide Cultural Olympiad project which will see six people sail the boat in its maiden voyage along the south coast next year.

A boat is being built from wooden donations given by people across the local area.

Dee, from Titchfield, was the first woman to sail solo, non-stop, around the world in both directions.

She said: ‘The boat project is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced and non-experienced sailors to be a part of this magnificent boat’s maiden voyage next year.

‘We are inviting people to nominate crew members for the voyage and hope that the experience will enrich and contribute significantly to the lives of the six final crew members selected.’

Nominees must be over 16 and available for nautical training and the voyage at various points from mid May through to July 2012.

Applications must be received by July 30.
