A PRESTIGIOUS food event with community at its heart is coming back.

All eyes were on Emsworth last autumn when it won a top national community award for volunteers’ hard work during British Food Fortnight.
This year’s event, from September 19 to October 4, will see more producers, businesses, and pubs, restaurants and cafes taking part.

I honestly can’t wait to see Emsworth celebrating this year’s harvest

Alistair Gibson, from Emsworth Business Association, said the emphasis will be on education, community and celebration.

He added: ‘We are so excited about this year’s Emsworth British Food Fortnight, we were determined to build on last year’s success and are so grateful to the partners we have been able to involve – their support will enable us to invest more in food education and awareness as well as allowing the range and breadth of events to increase.

‘I honestly can’t wait to see Emsworth celebrating this year’s harvest’.

This year’s programme will include Hampshire Farmers’ Market, Great British Menu college lunches by local catering colleges, an apple pressing day, a community harvest festival service and workshops with schools.

The food mountain will be back with food donations through The Beacon Church.

Alexia Robinson is the founder of Love British Food. She said: ‘We were so impressed with the efforts that the Emsworth community went to in organising the inaugural Emsworth Food Fortnight last year, and are bursting with pride to see the event now becoming a firm date on the local and national calendar.

‘We do not underestimate the hard work that has gone into this initiative.’

The Brookfield Hotel, in Havant Road, is sponsoring Emsworth Food Fortnight.

General manager Amanda Thomas said: ‘We are so excited to share in the passion that Emsworth has in promoting our community, to live and work in. This is a real celebration of all the very best of seasonal and local produce as well as all that is great about Emsworth.
