ORGANISERS of a multicultural festival say visitor numbers broke the 5,000 mark at the weekend.

The event in Havant Park on Saturday stopped traffic with a loud and colourful samba band making its way through the town.

And the crowds followed with Neide Drain, one of those who put in months of effort to make it a success, saying it was the biggest yet.

Mrs Drain, from Havant, said: ‘There were many, many people there and some of our members believe there were up to 5,000 which is amazing.

‘We’re all so pleased that people had fun and enjoyed themselves. The aim was to cement the integration of all communities in Havant.’

Anyone who would like to get involved with the Havant Multicultural Forum should call Mrs Drain on 07723 350321.
