DEFENCE firm employees undertook a gruelling cycle ride for charity.

More than 30 members of staff from Lockheed Martin got on their bikes for a two-day, 140-mile cycle between the bases at Ampthill, Farnborough, Whiteley and Havant in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

David Woodward, capture manager at Havant, lost his mother to cancer.

He said: ‘I’m very appreciative of Macmillan, which supported my mum and our family through cancer right until her final days.

‘We were able to contact them independently to get all the vital information we needed which was a great comfort at a difficult time.’

Employees are holding fundraising events throughout the month for the cancer charity.

The money will help people suffering from cancer, and their families, locally.

Paul Weatherley is managing director, secure systems and solutions at Lockheed Martin UK IS&GS.

He said: ‘It is great to be getting on our bikes to back Macmillan charity.’
