STRUGGLING families can tap into a new fund designed to help them learn to manage their finances.

The Portsmouth City Community Fund is offering £6,000 in grants as part of a Jam Jar initiative to get families with money problems out of trouble.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation and the Hampshire Credit Union are financing 60 Jam Jar accounts over 15 months.

Foundation chief executive Toni Shaw said: ‘More families than ever find themselves struggling financially and are dependent on the help and advice of non-profit organisations.’

She said pay-day loans were becoming a way of life for some people, making financial hardship even more difficult to manage.
