TALENTED young actors and directors have won a lottery grant to take their tough new production on tour.

Footlights is the senior group of the youth arts section of Merchistoun Hall, Horndean.

Awards 4 All granted them £6,500 to develop the self-written production Scrapbook which sees young people tackling issues that are important to them around the subjects of mental health, alcohol, depression, anxiety and grief.

The play was written by Christopher J Davey, 23, who has returned to Horndean from university. He hopes to make a career of writing and directing.

His 19-year-old sister Becky, who stars in the show, said: ‘Usually we run on very limited funding so it’s really exciting for us to have been granted some money.

‘It’s helped to focus and give everyone a bit of excitement to move on to bigger and better things.’

Dates and venues will be announced later this year.
