AN APPRENTICE at an Old English Inn has been recognised as a highly commended runner-up in the National Apprenticeship Awards.

Lacey Reilly, 24, from Havant, works at the Bear Hotel on East Street in thew town and fought off tough competition to be short-listed in the awards.

A ceremony took place at The Great Hall, in Winchester, on September 11 where she was praised for her outstanding work ethic and her total commitment to the job.

The National Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the success of the country’s most exceptional apprentices.

Lacey has been employed at The Bear Hotel for five years whilst doing a BII Hospitality Apprenticeship.

She said: ‘If you went back a year or so you would not recognise me as the same person as I am today.

‘I started out as a waitress, before being promoted to a head chef.

‘I felt so privileged to go to the awards because it was such an amazing experience, and even though I didn’t win we were all appreciated for the work we put in.’

Ben Wright, manager of the Bear Hotel, said: ‘I am incredibly proud of Lacey and all the team members here that I have seen first-hand flourish.’
