The day even saw a patriotic dog parade, circus skills, morris dancing and fancy dress competitions, as well as home-baked food for everyone to enjoy.

More than 250 people turned up to join in on the fun and games.

Organiser Carol Clark, 38, said: ‘We had a meeting back in January and began advertising on flyers to pass out to people.

‘Everyone has been so supportive, helpful and enthusiastic. So many people have contributed to this day, it’s been brilliant.’

Neighbour Sue Lloyd, 42, was delighted that her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Nelson and Emma, won the dog parade.

She said: ‘We have only had them for about 18 months. I’m so thrilled they came first, I never expected it.’
