OLYMPIC gold medallist Sally Gunnell has been awarded a civic honour for West Sussex.

The 45-year-old mum-of-three has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for the county by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, Susan Pyper.

Mrs Gunnell, who lives in Steyning, near Brighton, has been awarded the honour for her services to the community.

There are 41 Deputy Lieutenants for West Sussex who help represent the Lord-Lieutenant at formal functions and Remembrance Day services.
